How and What do we do to service you?
Chimney Cleaning:
Most combustion (especially burning of wood, coal and oil) produces exhaust gasses that leave a residue inside your chimney. This residue is called soot (or creosote) and must be removed to prevent draft restriction, blockage and chimney fires. Rule of thumb in cleaning frequencies are:
- Wood burning stove - 1 year
- Fireplace - 3 years
- Oil burner - 5 years
- Most gas-fired heating does not produce soot, but its flue should still be checked for flue deterioration and debris regularly.
Chimney Caps:
Chimney caps protect you in three main ways:
- Prevent animal entry (birds, squirrels, raccoons etc.)
- Prevent rain from from entering flue openings, possibly rusting metal fireplace dampers.
- Protect the top of the chimney from exposure to weather.
We install only rust-proof stainless-steel or copper chimney caps. Our recommendation is that all uncovered flues be capped. NECS carries a variety of sizes; regularly stocked and available to you.
Chimney Liners:
Chimney liners will bring your flue (s) into the 21st century. Most liners are made of stainless steel, with different types, sizes and shapes available for us to match your particular flue and heating source. The liner pipe becomes like a sleeve, worked into the existing flue from above and by-passing the damaged, deteriorated and cracked portions of the chimney's interior. The new flue liner is connected to the heating source (ie: furnace) and from that point forward, all exhaust gasses are then restricted to traveling with the new flue liner and are carried to the exit at the chimney top.
Waterproofing:
We use the best water-proofing treatment product available, Chimney Saver Ò, sold only to chimney contractors. Treating your exterior brick and mortar work stops moisture absorption, which preserves your chimney (like a good sealer on wood) and is often the solution to a leaking chimney.
Masonry Repairs:
We offer a limited variety of small to medium sized chimney repairs, including pointing, rebuilding and re-surfacing of chimney tops. Masonry repairs are offered as a side-line and are available spring and summer only.
For larger or ornate repairs, contact a mason.
